Charlton, Bobby (Robert) 1937 - . English footballer. Younger brother of Jack Charlton, who scored a record 49 goals in 106 appearances. An elegant midfield player who specialized in fierce long-range shots, he spent most of his playing career with Manchester United and played in the England team that won the World Cup 1966. On retiring Charlton had an unsuccessful spell as manager of Preston North End. He later became a director of Manchester United. He was knighted 1994.
